Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is a feminist media critic, public speaker and Canadian. Feminist Frequency is a site with video and an online blog looking at the portrayals of female characters in popular media and popular. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian as well as an American feminist media critic. Feminist Frequency is a site dedicated to education, which examines women's roles in pop culture narratives It is the brainchild of Anita Sarkeesian. Additionally, she serves as the director of operations. Alongside working to expose the issues surrounding the targeted and sexist attack on women and other minorities in online spaces she is dedicated to breaking the stereotypes prevalent in popular culture. Sarkeesian is a graduate in the fields of social thought and political science at York University. She is also an internationally acclaimed public speaking. Sarkeesian gave speeches to the TEDxWomen XOXO Festival and United Nations Broadband Working Group. She was interested in gender issues and feminism since a young age. When she graduated in 2009, still studying at university, she created the Feminist Frequency web site. The site was created by a woman in her early 20s with a dream to develop the series of videos on the internet to examine the gender representations in video games. But, she was the target of cyber-bullying. This attack didn't stop her, rather it strengthened her determination as an activist for women in media. Her notable contributions to the field of feminists were recognized by a variety of prizes. Anita Sarkeesian is an award winning media critic and the founder of Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit which studies the portrayals of women in popular cultural narratives.
